Fontessa never collects what you type. The keyboard extension contains no networking code at all — text is transformed on your device and forgotten.
The app itself talks to three services: Apple, for purchases; RevenueCat, to remember what you bought; and Google AdMob, to show ads in the free version. Nothing else leaves your phone unless you send us a bug report.
Who we are
Fontessa is an iOS app made by an independent developer. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean that developer, and "the app" means Fontessa and its keyboard extension. You can reach us at nghiad.dev@gmail.com.
What the keyboard does not do
This is the part most people want to know, so it comes first.
- Keystrokes are never recorded, stored or transmitted. When you type, the keyboard replaces each character with its styled equivalent and hands the result to the app you are typing in. Nothing is kept afterwards.
- The keyboard cannot send anything anywhere. It ships with no networking code — not disabled at runtime, but absent from the built extension. An automated check fails our release build if any is introduced.
- Full Access is optional. iOS asks for it so the keyboard can read the themes, fonts and purchases you chose in the main app, which live in shared storage on your device. Without it the keyboard still types; it just cannot see those choices. Granting it does not give us network access, because there is no networking code to use it.
What the app collects
| What | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Purchase and subscription status | To unlock what you paid for, on every device you sign in to | Apple and RevenueCat |
| An anonymous install identifier | Created by RevenueCat so a purchase can be restored; not linked to your name or email | RevenueCat |
| Advertising identifiers and ad interaction data | To show and measure ads in the free version | Google AdMob |
| A bug report, if you send one | To answer you and fix the problem | Our Slack workspace |
| Usage milestones (for example, that the keyboard was enabled) | To understand where setup goes wrong | Nowhere. Recorded on your device only; the app ships with no collection endpoint configured, so these are never uploaded |
Bug reports
If you tap Send feedback in the app, we receive the message you wrote, the email address you optionally supply, the app version and build number, your device model (for example, "iPhone17,1") and the anonymous RevenueCat identifier so a report can be matched to a purchase. We do not receive your name, your Apple Account, your contacts or anything you have typed with the keyboard. If you leave the email field blank we have no way to reply.
Photo themes
You can put one of your own photos behind the keys. iOS asks your permission, and the photo you choose is copied into the app's own storage on your device so the keyboard can draw it. It is never uploaded, and we never see it. Deleting the theme, or the app, deletes the copy.
Advertising and tracking
The free version shows banner ads and offers optional rewarded ads through Google AdMob. On first launch iOS asks whether you allow tracking across apps and websites. Declining changes nothing about how the app works — you still see ads, they are simply less personalised. You can change your answer at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking. Buying any paid plan removes ads entirely.
Third parties
These companies process data on our behalf, under their own privacy policies:
- Apple — handles every payment. We never see your card details. Apple Privacy Policy
- RevenueCat — records which plan you bought so it can be restored. RevenueCat Privacy Policy
- Google AdMob — serves ads in the free version. How Google uses data from apps that use its services
- Slack — receives bug reports you choose to send. Slack Privacy Policy
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone beyond the services listed above.
How long anything is kept
Purchase records are kept for as long as your purchase can be restored — indefinitely for a lifetime unlock, which is what makes it a lifetime unlock. Bug reports are kept in our Slack workspace until they are resolved and then periodically deleted. Data held on your device is deleted when you delete the app.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted. Because the app is built not to collect personal data, in most cases the answer is that we hold nothing but an anonymous purchase record. Write to nghiad.dev@gmail.com and we will answer within 30 days.
Requests to Apple, RevenueCat and Google about the data they hold should go to those companies directly, using the links above.
Children
Fontessa is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal data in a bug report, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change what the app collects, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated. Material changes will also be described in the App Store release notes for the version that makes them.
